5 Simple Ways to Add Microgreens to Your Daily Meals

Microgreens are one of the easiest upgrades you can make to everyday cooking. Here are five no-fuss ways to work them into breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Microgreens look impressive on a plate, but they don't require any special technique. They're best eaten raw so their flavour and nutrients stay intact — which means adding them is usually the very last step. Here are five everyday ways to make them part of your routine.

1.On top of eggs

A handful of microgreens on scrambled eggs or an omelette takes almost no extra effort and adds colour, crunch, and a burst of fresh flavour. Peppery arugula or radish microgreens work especially well here — they cut through richness the same way fresh herbs do.

2.In place of lettuce

Swap out iceberg or romaine in sandwiches and wraps for a layer of microgreens. Pea shoots are mild, sweet, and won't overpower other fillings. Sunflower microgreens add a satisfying crunch. Either way you get more nutrition in every bite.

3.Stirred into soups and noodles

Add microgreens to a bowl just before you eat rather than cooking them in the pot. The residual heat wilts them slightly without destroying their nutrients. Cilantro microgreens dropped into a bowl of pho or tom yum give the same fresh lift as the mature herb but with a more delicate texture.

4.Blended into smoothies

If you already make green smoothies, microgreens are a natural addition. Sunflower microgreens blend smoothly and add complete protein and healthy fats without a grassy taste. Start with a small handful alongside your usual ingredients.

5.As a finishing garnish

Think of microgreens the way chefs think about fresh herbs — scattered on a dish at the last moment for colour and contrast. Radish microgreens with their pink stems make even a simple rice bowl look restaurant-quality.

Storage tip

Keep microgreens dry and refrigerated. Store them loose in the container they arrive in and use within 5–7 days. Never wash until just before eating.
